Discover the essentials of C++ programming and interactive graphics by building your first playable games. Learn core programming concepts, animation, and user input while creating engaging visual experiences. This course introduces you to the fundamentals of C++ programming and game development using modern tools and libraries. You will explore variables, operators, decision-making, loops, arrays, and functions, all within the context of animating sprites and handling player input. By the end of the course, you will have built your first interactive games and gained a solid understanding of how to create dynamic, visually engaging applications. Through a blend of clear explanations, practical examples, and step-by-step guidance, this course helps you grasp foundational programming concepts while applying them to real game projects. You'll progress from basic syntax to implementing game mechanics, ensuring a smooth and engaging learning experience. This course is part one of a three-course Specialization designed to build a complete and cohesive understanding of the subject. While it offers valuable skills on its own, you'll gain the most benefit by progressing through all three courses as a structured learning journey. This course is based on Beginning C++ Game Programming, by John Horton. Packt is one of the world's most prolific publishers of cutting-edge technical content. Syllabus

  • Welcome to Beginning C++ Game Programming Third Edition!
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of C++ game programming using SFML, covering essential concepts like variable usage, loop structures, and error handling. It also guides learners through setting up the SFML library and working with game assets, preparing them to start building simple games.
  • Variables, Operators & Decisions: Animating Sprites
    • This module introduces foundational C++ concepts such as variables, operators, and decision-making structures. Learners will gain hands-on experience in manipulating game data and implementing logical controls to animate sprites in a game environment. The module focuses on practical skills for building interactive and dynamic game mechanics.
  • C++ Strings, SFML Time : Player Input & HUD
    • This module explores how to work with C++ strings, display text using SFML, and implement a time-bar mechanic to enhance player interaction in games. Learners will gain practical skills in managing game text and timing elements effectively.
  • Loops, Arrays, Switch, Enumerations & Functions: Implementing Game Mechanics
    • This module covers essential programming constructs such as loops, arrays, switch statements, and functions, with a focus on their application in game development. Learners will gain hands-on experience in implementing these concepts to create dynamic and interactive game elements.
  • Collisions, Sound & End Conditions: Making The Game Playable
    • This module focuses on implementing game mechanics such as collisions, sound effects, and end conditions using SFML. Learners will gain hands-on experience with initializing game elements, handling user input, and enhancing gameplay through audio integration.
