Nginx has become the backbone of modern web infrastructure, known for its high performance, scalability, and flexibility. Its event-driven architecture delivers high performance at scale, making it the go-to choice for web servers, reverse proxies, and load balancers across organizations of every size. Whether you're a web developer, system administrator, or DevOps engineer, understanding Nginx is crucial for building fast, secure, and reliable web applications. This course takes you from the ground up. You'll start with how web servers work and what makes NGINX's architecture fundamentally different from traditional thread-based servers. From there, you'll install NGINX on a Linux system, explore its directory structure and core configuration files, and deploy your first live website through a hands-on lab. You'll then move into intermediate configuration — setting up virtual servers to host multiple sites, implementing URL redirect and rewrite rules, and learning how regex applies to routing logic. The course closes with load balancing and reverse proxy configuration: you'll implement Round Robin and Least Connections algorithms across backend server pools and configure NGINX to securely mask and forward client requests to upstream services. Every module includes demonstration videos, hands-on labs, role play scenarios, and graded assignments — so you're configuring real NGINX environments, not just watching. Who this is for: Linux system administrators, DevOps engineers, web developers, and IT professionals who want a practical, foundational understanding of NGINX with hands-on lab experience. Basic Linux command-line experience is required.

Syllabus

  • Foundations
    • This module provides a foundational overview of web servers, introducing NGINX's unique event-driven architecture, core use cases, and how it compares to traditional thread-based web servers.
  • Install & Config
    • This module walks through the core installation processes for NGINX, initial configuration syntax, configuring firewalls and ports, and concludes with a hands-on lab to deploy a basic "Hello World" website.
  • Intermediate Config
    • This module expands into more complex server configurations, detailing the deployment of virtual servers (server blocks) for multiple sites and the implementation of custom URL redirection and rewriting rules.
  • Load Balancer and Reverse Proxy
    • This module covers NGINX's capabilities as an advanced traffic manager, exploring the deployment steps, architectural differences, and execution procedures for configuring robust reverse proxies and distributed load balancers.
