Introduction to Blender 3D: Beginner’s Guide to 3D Modeling is the perfect starting point for anyone curious about creating 3D art. Guided by instructor Monica Trochez-Hayes, you'll build a strong foundation in Blender while creating your very first 3D project from start to finish. By the end of this course, you will be able to navigate Blender’s interface confidently, move around the 3D viewport, use essential modeling tools, manipulate primitive shapes to create more complex objects, and apply basic materials to your models. You'll also gain an understanding of lighting, cameras, and rendering as you complete a fully modeled toy train and produce a high-quality rendered image of your work. What makes this course unique is its beginner-friendly, hands-on approach. Rather than overwhelming you with advanced concepts, Monica focuses on the practical skills you need to start creating in Blender right away, sharing useful shortcuts, workflows, and tips from her professional experience. This course is designed for complete beginners and aspiring 3D artists with little or no prior experience in Blender or 3D modeling. To be successful, you should be comfortable using a computer and have access to a device capable of running Blender 2.9 or later. No previous 3D design experience is required.

Syllabus

  • Installing Blender and Exploring the Interface
    • Get started with Blender by installing the software and becoming familiar with its interface. You'll explore Blender’s modular structure and learn how the application is organized, providing a strong foundation for future modeling and design work.
  • Navigating Blender's 3D Workspace
    • Develop essential navigation skills that every Blender user needs. This module focuses on workspaces, viewport controls, viewing modes, and object selection techniques that make working in a 3D environment more efficient and intuitive.
  • Creating and Transforming Objects
    • Learn the essential object-editing techniques used in every Blender project. You'll practice creating, transforming, and managing objects while becoming comfortable with the shortcuts and tools that improve modeling efficiency.
  • Managing Scenes and Understanding 3D Geometry
    • Explore the tools that help organize and manage Blender projects. You'll learn how scene elements are structured, how different object modes affect workflows, and how Blender’s interface supports efficient project management.
  • Learning Core Modeling Techniques
    • Build your understanding of 3D modeling fundamentals by working directly with mesh geometry. This module introduces the core tools and concepts used to create, refine, and display models in Blender.
  • Building the Toy Train Model
    • Apply your modeling skills in a guided project by constructing a toy train. You'll build each major component while reinforcing techniques related to object creation, editing, and assembly.
  • Materials, Lighting, and Final Rendering
    • Complete the toy train project by focusing on presentation and rendering. You'll enhance your model with materials, create lighting setups, position cameras, and generate a final rendered image that showcases your work.
