Syllabus

  • Underground Cables
    • Let’s begin this module by understanding the comparison between overhead and underground transmission systems, their advantages, limitations, and applications in modern power networks. The module discusses the construction, classification, and insulation materials used in underground cables, along with electrical stress analysis, capacitance calculations, cable grading techniques, and thermal resistance determination. It also introduces underground cable laying methods, installation practices, and safety considerations adopted in underground transmission systems.
  • HVDC Transmission System and its Modeling
    • Let’s begin this module by understanding the fundamentals of HVDC transmission systems, their architecture, advantages, and applications in modern power systems. The module discusses different types of HVDC links, HVDC systems in India, and the economic, technical, and environmental benefits of HVDC transmission. It also introduces HVDC converters, voltage source converters, modular multilevel converters, converter transformers, smoothing reactors, and the conductors, cables, and towers used in HVDC transmission systems.
  • AC Distribution System
    • Let’s begin this module by understanding the fundamentals of power distribution systems, including distribution network design, distribution loads, voltage regulation, and power factor improvement techniques. The module discusses different types of consumers, primary and secondary distribution systems, overhead and underground distribution methods, and losses in distribution networks. It also introduces distribution substations, gas insulated substations, substation equipment, fault detection and clearance methods, and loop automation techniques used for improving reliability and efficiency in modern distribution systems.
