By the end of this course, you’ll be able to brainstorm logo concepts, turn your ideas into polished vector artwork, and create professional logo variations using Adobe Illustrator. Derrick Mitchell will show you how to take a logo from a simple sketch all the way to a beautifully packaged finished design. This course is for aspiring graphic designers, beginners learning Adobe Illustrator, or anyone who wants to add logo design to their creative toolkit. You’ll learn how to brainstorm and sketch ideas, experiment with digital drawing tools, and use typography, shapes, color, and Illustrator’s tools to bring your concepts to life. What makes this course unique is that you don’t need to be an artist or an amazing sketcher to create beautiful, professional-looking logos. To be successful, you should have access to Adobe Illustrator on a desktop computer. No prior logo design experience is required, and an iPad, Procreate, Adobe Fresco, or Wacom tablet is completely optional. By the end, you’ll have the skills and a finished logo you can confidently put to use.

Syllabus

Getting Started & Generating Logo Ideas
- This module introduces the course and sets the foundation for your logo design project. You’ll learn how to approach a design brief, use creative prompts to spark ideas, and generate multiple logo concepts through brainstorming. By the end, you’ll have clear directions ready to explore visually.
Sketching and Digitizing Your Concepts
- In this module, you’ll move from ideas to visuals. You’ll sketch logo concepts on paper and iPad, then bring those sketches into Adobe Illustrator. Using tools like Image Trace, you’ll convert your drawings into vector graphics, setting the stage for refinement and design development.
Designing with Typography, Shape, and Color
- This module focuses on building strong, polished logo designs. You’ll speed up your workflow with shortcuts, explore typography, and create vector shapes. You’ll also apply color strategically to enhance your designs, bringing your logo concepts closer to a professional result.
Finalizing, Presenting, and Exporting Your Logo
- In the final module, you’ll refine and finalize your logo designs. You’ll bring all elements together, create variations for presentation, and export files for different use cases. You’ll also explore next steps to continue growing your skills as a designer.
