Syllabus

  • Introduction to Figma & Course Overview
    • Get started with the fundamentals of UI and UX design using Figma. In this module, you'll explore what Figma is, how it compares to other tools, and how UI and UX intersect in modern design. You'll also set up your first class project by creating a brief that will guide your learning journey throughout the course.
  • Wireframing & Foundational Design Tools
    • Learn the core building blocks of digital design in Figma. This module introduces wireframing basics, key tools for typography and shape creation, and best practices for using frames to organize your layouts. You’ll also learn when to use low-fidelity versus high-fidelity wireframes.
  • Colors, Strokes & Object Basics
    • Master the visual styling tools in Figma by exploring color application, stroke settings, and object manipulation. This module also explains the difference between frames and groups for smarter organization, and gives you hands-on experience using Figma’s editing tools.
  • Wireframe Practice & Icon Design
    • Put your wireframing knowledge to work by building a functional layout and incorporating icons into your design. You’ll learn where to source free icons, how to match stroke styles for consistency, and how to use plugins to streamline your icon workflow.
  • Prototyping Basics
    • Bring your static designs to life with clickable prototypes. This module teaches you how to use pages to organize multi-screen designs, add animations and easing, and test your prototypes directly on your phone using Figma Mirror.
  • Animation & Collaboration
    • Explore how to collaborate and share your designs effectively while adding dynamic animations. You’ll use Smart Animate for transitions, learn how to collect stakeholder feedback through comments, and collaborate in real time with shared editing features.
  • UX Inspiration & Moodboards
    • Design starts with inspiration. This module helps you identify sources of creative influence, build a moodboard that sets the tone for your project, and clearly communicate the visual direction of your UX work.
  • Layouts, Columns & Color Techniques
    • Establish design consistency using color styles, custom palettes, and grid layouts. You'll discover how to structure content with columns and alignment tools, build gradients, and create reusable color systems that bring polish to your work.
  • Typography & Text Styling
    • Dive into the details of digital typography. You’ll learn how to choose web-safe fonts, create character styles, handle font pairing, and troubleshoot common text issues to ensure your designs are both accessible and visually engaging.
  • Shapes, Icons & Boolean Tools
    • Advance your shape design skills with Figma’s Boolean operations and path editing tools. Learn how to create custom UI elements like squircle buttons and combine shapes in creative ways using Union, Flatten, and more.
  • Images, Masking & UX Tools
    • Finish strong by integrating images into your designs using Figma’s masking and cropping features. You’ll also compare Figma’s image capabilities with tools like Photoshop and Illustrator and explore plugins that boost your image workflows.
