How do you find the right sources for your research, and check that they are accurate? This course will introduce you to why finding appropriate resources is vital to good research, how you can determine if a source is credible, why fact-checking is so important, and provide strategies to help with fact-checking.

  • Why Do I Need to Check Sources?
    • This module introduces the principles and practices of fact-checking in research and explores the importance of evaluating the credibility of information sources. You will learn how to identify and assess different types of sources, recognize indicators of reliability and trustworthiness, and apply practical fact-checking strategies to ensure the information you use is accurate, relevant, and appropriate for your research goals.
  • What Should I Consider When Checking Sources?
    • This module explores advanced fact-checking and source evaluation techniques to help you identify the most reliable and relevant information for your research. You will learn how to assess the credibility of authors and publishers, understand the purpose and potential biases behind sources, reflect on the influence of your own assumptions, and use tools such as annotated bibliographies to evaluate, organize, and track sources effectively throughout the research process.
  • What Other Strategies Can I Use?
    • This module brings together the skills and knowledge developed throughout the course to help you become a more confident and adaptable fact-checker. You will learn how to apply different fact-checking strategies to complex or challenging situations, evaluate sources using a range of tools and techniques, and select the most appropriate approach for different research contexts. The module also explores how to communicate and present your findings effectively to different audiences, ensuring your work is both credible and impactful.
