The course is designed to enable learners at a pre-advanced level of English to take their language to the next level. The course helps learners adapt their language to a variety of contexts and includes the flexible application of irony, idiomatic language and colloquial language well as the ability to understand, adapt to and participate in a wide range of social contexts.

Syllabus

  • Making a good impression
    • By the end of this week you will be able to talk about meeting people and the impression you make. You will be able to use a range of language to create positive impressions, and you will also develop strategies for understanding specific meanings in complex academic texts.
  • Art is the new influencer
    • By the end of this week, you will be able to talk about art and its role in our lives using expressive language. You will also learn to use ellipsis and adverbs for emphasis to communicate more effectively and naturally in spoken and written English.
  • Making a difference
    • By the end of this week, you will be able to talk about clothes, fast fashion, and related environmental issues with greater fluency. You will also be able to use a range of future tenses to discuss plans, predictions, and assumptions, while expanding your vocabulary through expressions related to money and collocations linked to environmental topics.
  • It's a small world
    • By the end of this week, you will be able to talk about music and its role in our lives using expressive language suited to everyday conversation. You will also learn to use inversions for emphasis and develop strategies for recognizing and understanding onomatopoeia in spoken and written texts.
  • Embracing change
    • By the end of this week, you will be able to talk about the dangers of an unhealthy diet and explore food-related issues such as labeling with greater confidence. You will expand your vocabulary through expressions related to journalism, develop your use of distancing techniques in both spoken and written English, and deepen your understanding of verb patterns within word families.
  • Moving on
    • By the end of this week, you will be able to talk about inheritance, investments, and other finance-related topics using appropriate and expressive language. You will also learn to use discourse markers effectively in both spoken and written English and develop your ability to describe people's behavior and tendencies in a more precise and natural way.
