In this course, you’ll learn the core tools and practices behind modern software delivery. You’ll containerise applications with Docker, deploy them to the web, automate testing and deployment with CI/CD, and learn how CDNs help deliver applications quickly to users around the world. What is DevOps? DevOps is a set of practices that brings software development and operations together to make building, testing, deploying, and maintaining applications more efficient. Instead of relying on slow, manual release processes, DevOps teams use tools and automation to create consistent workflows that can take code from development to production quickly and reliably. You’ll encounter DevOps practices across companies of every size, making these skills valuable whether you’re working as a developer, moving towards a DevOps or platform role, or simply want to understand how real-world applications are deployed. What you'll learn: You’ll start with containers and Docker, learning how to package an application together with everything it needs to run consistently across different environments. From there, you’ll deploy applications to the web using Render and learn how production deployments work. You’ll then explore continuous integration (CI), using automation to check and validate changes to your code, before moving on to continuous deployment (CD) and creating workflows that can automatically ship those changes to production. Finally, you’ll learn about content delivery networks (CDNs), how they work, and how they help make applications faster and more resilient for users around the world. By the end of the course, you’ll understand the core DevOps workflow and have practical experience taking applications from local development all the way to production.

Syllabus

Containers and Docker
- Images, containers, volumes, and Compose. You'll take a Node app from your machine into a container, understand where the data lives, and run the whole stack with one command.
Deployment
- Take the app from your machine to production. Node environments, Docker deploys, domains, staging, and the operational habits that catch problems before your users do.
Continuous Integration
- Write your first GitHub Actions workflow, then make it earn its keep. Automated formatting with Prettier, linting with ESLint, and a Docker build and push authenticated with GitHub variables and secrets.
Continuous Delivery
- Automate the whole path to production: deploys, migrations, and the safety nets. You'll run backward-compatible schema changes with expand, backfill, prepare, switch, and contract, and guard releases with health checks, feature flags, and rollbacks.
Content Delivery Networks
- See what a CDN actually fixes, from DDoS protection and caching to reliability and bandwidth costs, then meet edge functions and the gotchas nobody warns you about before you put one in front of your app.
