This course moves from mindset to build. You will learn to work with AI as a strategic partner, construct and deploy AI agents, orchestrate multi-step and multi-agent workflows, and prompt across text, image, and data modalities. You will also learn to supervise autonomous agents—deciding when to intervene and when to let them run. Hands-on work includes an AI-readiness assessment, a workforce skilling plan, a deployed agent that automates a recurring task, a multi-agent system blueprint, a multimodal workflow, and a risk-scored intervention matrix. By the end you will have a working agent, a multi-agent workflow, and the supervision protocols to run them responsibly. You will use generative AI chat interfaces, no-code and low-code agent frameworks such as CrewAI, multimodal AI tools spanning text, image, and code, prompt orchestration tools, and Coursera Coach. Basic familiarity with generative AI tools is assumed.

Syllabus

AI as Partner: The Collaboration Mindset
- Learn to focus on preparing your organization for the successful integration of Generative AI. It emphasizes the importance of engaging and training your workforce on GenAI, discusses the unique aspects of a GenAI transformation and offers practical guidance on preparing your organization. Strategies for skilling your workforce on GenAI are provided, ensuring that everyone from executives to team members can effectively utilize this technology.
Building and Working with AI Agents
- You’ll explore the types, functions, and real-world applications of AI agents across industries; you’ll learn to build and implement AI agents, evaluate their performance, and address limitations. You’ll also analyze the ethical and societal implications of AI, developing guidelines for responsible innovation and deployment.
Multimodal AI: Prompting Across Text, Image, and Data
- Learn to prompt AI across text, image, and data, and combine those modalities into a single working output. Practice cross-modal prompting in personal accounts, build a multimodal workflow, and evaluate outputs for quality across modalities to produce richer, integrated deliverables than text-only prompting allows.
Prompt Orchestration: Multi-Step AI Workflows
- Learn to connect prompts and AI tools into reliable multi-step workflows, coordinate multi-turn agent orchestration, and place quality checkpoints between stages. Build a prompt chain across multiple tools, run an orchestration sequence, and validate outputs at each stage to turn one-off prompting into repeatable, quality-controlled automation.
Implementing AI Agent Workflows
- Learn hands-on introduction to the world of AI agents, perfect for aspiring AI architects and innovators. Emphasizing practical application and fast-track learning, you’ll immerse yourself in coding while acquiring scalable skills for future projects.
Working with Autonomous AI Agents
- Learn to supervise autonomous AI agents responsibly by determining necessary intervention points, selecting oversight strategies, and delegating tasks safely. Build a risk-scored intervention matrix, define a supervision protocol, and execute a structured delegation with an oversight report to maintain human accountability during automated operations.
Project Module: Configure and Supervise an AI Agent Workflow
- In this project, you configure and test a working multi-agent workflow in draft/paused mode and pair it with a supervision protocol that governs how it runs. You will configure the workflow, prepare it with success criteria, and document the intervention points, boundaries, and escalation triggers that keep a human accountable. This matters because employers value people who can both set up automation and run it responsibly.
