Recognize and remove bias from legal writing — and use AI tools without amplifying it. This course helps legal professionals produce writing that is precise, inclusive, and free of unintended bias. You'll learn to identify and avoid bias in your own drafting, understand how AI tools can either mitigate or perpetuate bias, and address anti-racism, perceptions of intelligence, and Eurocentric language structures. Practical modules cover inclusive and gender-neutral language and pronoun use, spotting subtle ad hominem attacks, and the cultural missteps attorneys most commonly make in legal writing.

Syllabus

Module 1 - Bias in Legal Writing
- Learn to identify and avoid bias in legal writing, and understand how AI technology can either mitigate or perpetuate it.
Module 2 - Bias in Legal Writing
- Address anti-racism, perceptions of intelligence, and Eurocentric language structures, and apply inclusive, gender-neutral language and pronoun guidelines.
Module 3 - Bias in Legal Writing
- Spot and prevent subtle ad hominem attacks, and recognize the cultural mistakes attorneys most often make in legal writing.
