This comprehensive, hands-on course is designed to empower learners to analyze, build, deploy, and optimize intelligent applications using Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services. Through a structured six-module framework, learners will explore a variety of AI-powered tools that mimic human cognition—including vision recognition, speech processing, language understanding, anomaly detection, personalization, and intelligent web search. Starting with foundational concepts and free-tier account setup, the course delves into real-world applications such as computer vision, face recognition, custom object detection, form and ink recognition, and natural language processing. Learners will gain proficiency in configuring and invoking REST APIs, training models, integrating services into applications, and visualizing insights. Advanced modules guide learners through building anomaly detection workflows, implementing decision-making logic via the Personalizer API, and enriching user experiences with Bing-powered web search capabilities. Each module is reinforced with hands-on exercises, quizzes, and application-driven learning objectives aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy verbs such as "implement," "configure," "differentiate," "evaluate," and "design." By the end of the course, learners will be able to develop adaptable, AI-enhanced applications capable of processing visual data, interpreting language, detecting anomalies, and providing tailored user experiences in a cloud-first ecosystem.

Syllabus

  • Getting Started with Azure Cognitive Services
    • This module introduces learners to the foundational concepts and practical setup of Azure Cognitive Services. It begins by explaining the purpose, scope, and benefits of Cognitive Services, followed by detailed guidance on creating a free-tier Azure account. Learners are then introduced to the Computer Vision and Face APIs, understanding their capabilities, formats, constraints, and how to implement them using tools like Postman. Through hands-on demos, the module empowers learners to recognize and apply key vision-based services provided by Azure, preparing them for more advanced cognitive implementations.
  • Custom Vision and Form Recognition
    • This module explores advanced capabilities within Azure Cognitive Services, focusing on building tailored AI models using Custom Vision, and automating content extraction from unstructured documents through Form Recognizer and Ink Recognizer. It also introduces learners to the Video Indexer tool for extracting rich metadata from multimedia content. Through a blend of conceptual walkthroughs and hands-on exercises, learners will gain practical skills in training image classifiers, deploying document-processing workflows, and analyzing videos using Azure-powered services.
  • Speech Services in Azure
    • This module introduces learners to Azure's powerful speech capabilities, focusing on how to convert speech to text, synthesize speech from text, and translate spoken language across languages. It also explores speaker recognition features for identity verification. Through both conceptual overviews and hands-on demonstrations, learners gain practical experience with setting up Azure Speech Services, invoking REST APIs, and integrating speech features into applications for real-time and batch processing.
  • Language Understanding and Entity Recognition
    • This module introduces learners to Azure Cognitive Services for natural language processing, focusing on capabilities like sentiment analysis, language translation, language understanding (LUIS), and entity recognition. Learners will explore how these tools extract meaning, structure, and intent from text, and see practical demonstrations of integrating these services into intelligent applications. By the end of this module, learners will be able to build applications that interpret text, understand user intent, and extract relevant data entities.
  • Knowledge Mining and Decision Services
    • This module introduces learners to advanced knowledge extraction and content moderation capabilities in Azure Cognitive Services. It covers building conversational agents using QnA Maker, implementing intelligent decision-making with Personalizer, and safeguarding platforms through automated text, image, and content moderation services. Learners will explore practical implementations of decision and moderation APIs in real-world scenarios.
  • Anomaly Detection, Personalizer, and Web Search
    • This module introduces learners to advanced cognitive services in Microsoft Azure focused on detecting anomalies in data, delivering personalized experiences through contextual decision-making, and performing intelligent web searches using Azure’s search APIs. Learners will gain hands-on experience in configuring anomaly detection models, building and rewarding Personalizer-based recommendations, and integrating web search results into custom applications. These services demonstrate how AI can be used to monitor trends, adapt user experiences, and leverage real-time search data.
