This course introduces the core compliance checks used to determine whether a tax return is truly ready to file. Learners will move from reading a compliance dashboard in ONESOURCE to tracking deadlines, interpreting status flags, completing a pre-filing checklist, and applying a validation matrix to support filing readiness. The course is grounded in practical tax operations and focuses on the daily judgment and documentation habits that prevent late-stage filing failures. Course Learning Objectives Interpret a tax compliance dashboard and prioritize issues based on status flags Identify key filing requirements, due dates, and extension timelines across common federal and state obligations Use an entity calendar to organize original and extended deadlines Apply a pre-filing compliance checklist to assess return readiness Perform validation checks on source data, workpapers, and filing diagnostics Document compliance review steps in a way that supports reviewer and auditor expectations Recognize and avoid common compliance errors that delay or invalidate filing

Syllabus

  • The Compliance Dashboard and Status Flags
    • This module introduces the ONESOURCE compliance dashboard as a daily triage tool. Learners practice interpreting common status flags, prioritizing work by severity, and avoiding common mistakes such as over-escalating in-progress items or assuming a completed step means a return is ready to file. The module emphasizes a core operational distinction: the dashboard shows workflow status, while filing readiness must be confirmed separately.
  • Filing Calendars, Deadlines, and Tax Obligations
    • This module focuses on using an entity calendar to manage tax compliance timing across annual returns, extensions, estimated tax payments, state filings, information reporting, and payroll obligations. Learners review common deadline patterns for calendar-year corporate filers and practice organizing filing requirements in one operational view. The module reinforces that a filing can be on schedule and still not be ready to submit.
  • The Pre-Filing Checklist
    • This module covers the checklist-based controls that determine whether a return is truly ready to file. Learners work through tie-outs, reconciliations, support requirements, attachments, diagnostics, and approval steps used in final compliance review. The module builds the habit of verifying evidence, documenting what was checked, and holding the line that a return does not file until every required checklist item is cleared.
  • The Validation Matrix and Final Risk Checks
    • This module introduces the validation checks used to detect common filing risks before submission. Learners match specific problems to the correct validation type, apply documentation templates, and practice recording reviewer-ready notes that show what was checked, what result was found, and what support was used. The module highlights how strong validation and documentation habits help prevent late-stage filing failures.
