Apache Kafka powers some of the world's most demanding data pipelines—and this course teaches you to operate it at an advanced level. You'll go beyond basic producers and consumers to explore Kafka cluster internals. Starting with offset management and poison pill error-handling strategies, you'll transition from ZooKeeper to the modern KRaft protocol and apply enterprise-grade security configurations to protect your clusters. Next, you'll explore the Confluent Platform—including Schema Registry for data governance and ksqlDB for real-time stream processing. You'll then use Kafka Connect to build automated data pipelines that stream live data directly into Amazon S3, working through connector configuration and Single Message Transforms. The course ends with a hands-on capstone project: provision infrastructure on AWS EC2, integrate backend services, and connect a live frontend to deploy a complete, end-to-end event-driven system from scratch. Who this is for: Senior developers, DevOps engineers, and cloud architects with working Kafka knowledge who are ready to tackle enterprise-scale operational challenges.

Syllabus

  • Deep Dive: Beyond Basics
    • This module takes you beyond Kafka fundamentals into advanced architecture and performance concepts. You’ll explore internal mechanics, optimization strategies, and how Kafka handles large-scale workloads. It prepares you to design robust, high-throughput streaming systems.
  • Confluent Kafka
    • Explore the Confluent ecosystem and its enterprise-grade enhancements to Apache Kafka. This module introduces tools like Schema Registry, ksqlDB, and Control Center. You’ll learn how Confluent simplifies building, managing, and scaling event streaming platforms.
  • Kafka Connect
    • This module focuses on integrating Kafka with external systems using Kafka Connect. You’ll learn how to build scalable data pipelines with source and sink connectors. It also covers connector configuration, transformations, and real-world integration patterns.
  • Project: Event-Driven System
    • In this hands-on project, you will design and implement a complete event-driven system using Kafka. You’ll apply concepts from previous modules to build a real-world streaming solution. This project reinforces practical skills in architecture, integration, and data flow design.
