This short course introduces beauty professionals and tech-savvy innovators to the role of AI in the cosmetic industry. Through focused instructional content, interactive activities, and hands-on AI applications, learners explore how AI enhances product personalization, consumer insights, and marketing. The course opens with foundational AI concepts — machine learning, computer vision, and personalization — anchored in real-world beauty examples. Learners engage with Olay's AI Skin Advisor as a live case study, examining how consumer-facing AI works and reflecting on ethical considerations such as fairness across diverse skin tones and data privacy. In Module 2, learners build prompt engineering skills using the Role-Task-Constraint framework, writing effective prompts for skin analysis, product recommendation, and marketing strategy. The course concludes with the Mini AI Beauty Challenge — a capstone project in which learners design their own AI-powered beauty concept, applying prompt engineering, personalization strategy, and responsible AI principles. No prior AI or programming experience required. By the end of this course, you will be able to: - Identify how AI improves consumer insights and personalization. - Apply foundational prompt engineering responsibly to product or marketing use cases, with attention to ethical AI practices. - Create a mini-AI-powered marketing or product concept for beauty.

Syllabus

Foundations of AI in Beauty

This module introduces the fundamental role of AI in the cosmetic industry. Learners will explore key AI technologies, such as computer vision for virtual try-ons, natural language processing for trend analysis, and generative AI for content creation, understand their application in personalizing products and experiences, and critically examine the ethical challenges and opportunities involved. Through real-world scenarios, learners will develop practical skills in identifying and reflecting on the ethical implications of AI in the beauty industry.

Prompt Engineering in Action

This module focuses on the core practical skill of prompt engineering. Learners will transition from theory to practice, learning how to write effective prompts to command AI tools for specific beauty industry tasks such as analyzing skin types and generating marketing ideas. Through hands-on exercises, learners will build confidence and ability in using AI tools for real-world results.

Capstone Project and Graded Assessment

This module serves as the culminating experience of the course, where learners apply their knowledge of prompt engineering to create a mini AI-powered marketing or product concept. Through the 'Mini AI Beauty Challenge,' learners will identify a challenge, develop effective AI prompts, and summarize innovative solutions. The graded assessment validates learner understanding of AI applications and ethical considerations in the beauty industry.
