Scaling a CloudStack environment starts with building automation that can provision, validate, and evolve infrastructure reliably as demand grows. In this advanced, hands-on course, you will learn how to move beyond manual setup by automating a full CloudStack zone using infrastructure as code. You will begin by provisioning core components with Ansible or Terraform, focusing on modular design and repeatable deployments. As you progress, you will add CI checks that help validate changes and prepare automation for staging and production use. You will then extend the environment by introducing an S3-compatible object storage backend, exploring how configuration choices, backward compatibility, and migration paths affect operational risk. You are required to have experience in administering CloudStack environments and basic familiarity with automation concepts. By the end, you will produce automation, configuration scripts, and runbook documentation that support scalable, real-world CloudStack operations.

Syllabus

  • Automating a Scalable CloudStack Zone with Infrastructure as Code
    • This content was developed by Amily Chowdhury and will be presented by Carlton Fludd, who will walk you through it. This module establishes the foundation for scaling CloudStack by automating the provisioning of a complete zone. Learners will move from architectural understanding to action by designing and building infrastructure-as-code automation that supports repeatable, testable, and CI-ready CloudStack deployments.
  • Extending CloudStack with S3-Compatible Storage at Scale
    • This module builds on your automated foundation by extending CloudStack with an S3-compatible object storage backend. Learners will learn about introducing new storage safely by creating configuration scripts and operational runbooks that support backward compatibility, controlled migration, and handoff to operations teams.
