This 7-week workshop guides you through the fundamentals of writing a standard 3-act comedy pilot, with particular emphasis on story structure and professional craft. You will study act breaks, scene transitions, plot lines, and the mechanics that bring scripts to life. The course features a rigorous, collaborative roundtable workshop structure where you develop your original concept from initial pitch to a fully polished, presentable pilot script. Be prepared for a challenging workload that includes extensive reading, writing, and critical analysis of both your own work and your peers' scripts.
Before the First Class: Come prepared with several pilot ideas or premises ready to pitch. Additionally, bring examples of television pilots you enjoy and would like to discuss as reference material.
Important Notes:
- Significant amounts of writing and reading other students' work will be expected between each class session.
- Class end time may extend between 9:30 and 10:00 PM, depending on total enrollment.
- This workshop does not conclude with a class show or public presentation.
- A Zoom link will be provided to all registered students.
