via CourseHorse

Overview

This course prepares students to confidently specify wallcoverings for a range of residential interiors. Beginning with an exploration of the history and evolution of wallpaper—from traditional hand-blocked prints to contemporary digitally printed murals—students gain a deeper understanding of its role in design.

Through lectures and case studies, students examine how leading interior designers use wallcoverings to enhance and define spaces. Technical instruction covers key material types, including vinyl, grasscloth, and paper, with a focus on performance factors such as durability, maintenance, and sustainability—equipping students to make informed, client-ready decisions.

A hands-on project reinforces learning as students develop cohesive design schemes, selecting wallcoverings that coordinate effectively with furniture, textiles, and architectural elements to create visually compelling interiors.
