Virtual Japanese Flower Arrangement - Misho Ikebana (Live Online)

via CourseHorse

Overview

Discover the traditional Japanese art of Ikebana through our interactive virtual classes designed for complete beginners. You'll learn that creating beautiful flower arrangements requires no specialized equipment or advanced training, just basic household items and a willingness to explore your creativity.

What You'll Need:

Gather these simple materials to get started: fresh flowers (aim for two to three varieties of your choice; local florists may offer delivery services), cutting tools such as scissors or clippers, and a container with some depth (a glass, coffee cup, cereal bowl, or traditional vase all work beautifully). If you have a Kenzan, flower pin, or pin frog, feel free to use it, though these are optional additions you can find online if desired.

What You'll Do:

During class, instructor Ryoko Arnwine will first demonstrate fundamental Ikebana principles and basic arrangement techniques. You'll then have the opportunity to arrange your own flowers while receiving personalized guidance. This hands-on learning approach helps you internalize techniques more effectively than memorizing rules alone.

The beauty of Ikebana extends beyond creating attractive arrangements. This therapeutic practice encourages mindfulness and focus as you work with natural materials. Whether you're an experienced gardener or someone discovering flowers for the first time, this class celebrates the Japanese art form while helping you bring life and warmth to your home environment.

Sessions are held via Zoom Video Conferencing, with a private meeting link sent to participants before class begins. All classes are conducted in Eastern Time.
