Modern calligraphy represents a more freeform style of beautiful writing that maintains the elegant sophistication of traditional calligraphy while allowing for greater personal creative expression.
In this group modern calligraphy and brush lettering class, your group will learn all the essential techniques needed to create the thick and thin lines that form the beautiful letterforms of calligraphy, using brush pens or even simple Crayola markers.
No prior experience is required to participate successfully. The skills you will develop can be applied to cards, invitations, decorative signs, or simply to add elegant flair to your everyday penmanship.
Throughout this workshop, your group will master:
- Selection and proper use of lettering tools and implements
- Basic strokes of modern brush lettering by practicing the 8 fundamental strokes, which form the foundation for creating custom letters
- Composition methods for both uppercase and lowercase letters
- Techniques for connecting letters to form complete words and phrases
- Professional tips and tricks for perfecting your lettering skills
- Practice connecting letters and review challenging letter combinations
- Introduction to bouncing techniques and flourishes for added elegance
