TV Structure for Pilot Writing with Anna Salinas (Live Online)

via CourseHorse

Overview

Writing a TV pilot is one of the most demanding challenges a screenwriter can face, and without a firm structural foundation, even a brilliant concept can fall apart. The good news is that whether you are writing a thriller set in deep space or a coming-of-age romance on a Montana ranch, a solid set of structural principles can help you consistently reach "the end." In this one-day clinic, TV writer Anna Salinas (LOOT, MO, 3 Scripts Sold) will guide you through applying a proven structural toolkit to root your story in a clearly defined genre, give it a rock-solid narrative spine, and build the compelling character and story arcs that will launch your pilot confidently into series territory.

Through engaging lectures, hands-on writing exercises, and open Q&A, you will learn how to craft an irresistible spine that keeps your story on track from page one to the final scene. By the end of the day, you will have all the tools you need to give your TV series a foundation it can stand on.

Topics include: Act breaks, A/B/C stories, reversals, twists, character arcs, story weaves, cliffhangers, dramatic blows, and more.

Graduates of this school have gone on to land 410 staff writing positions on shows including FARGO, PERRY MASON, AMERICAN BORN CHINESE, THE BROTHERS SUN, FRASIER, and DAVE, and have won 189 fellowships and staffing program spots at organizations including Disney, NBCU, WB, Paramount, and Disruptors.

Note: This is primarily a lecture-based class with some in-class writing exercises. Due to the seminar format, not every participant will have the opportunity to share their writing for individual feedback.
