You love the theatre, and you want to be part of it. You have ideas for a new play — or you wish you did — and you can’t figure out how to get started. Take it from experienced playwright and seasoned playwriting teacher Aaron Ricciardi: this is the hardest part.
In this monthlong course, Aaron will lead playwrights, new or experienced, through different ways to begin a play. We will look at building characters, setting, conflict, action, and more, all in service of creating the context for a captivating work of drama to flourish. Writers will try their hand at different exercises, some left-brain and some right-, in order to free ideas, tune into impulses, and knock loose habits or fears that are in their way. The goal of this course is to leave with a kind of blueprint for the creation of a new play, eager to go make this thing you have started, perhaps in our upcoming classes “Writing the One-Act Play” and “New Play Generator.”
Enrollment is limited to 15 students.
