Solar PV Design, Installation & Troubleshooting (Live Online)

via CourseHorse

Overview

This comprehensive six-week course covers both the fundamental principles of how solar photovoltaic electricity is generated and the practical methods for assessing whether a solar PV system is appropriate and feasible for specific applications and locations.

Course topics include calculating and precisely measuring photovoltaic power input and output, performing site assessments, designing integrated systems, managing permitting processes, sizing batteries and PV components, determining optimal panel orientation and calculating radiation exposure, calculating electrical load requirements, installing complete systems, troubleshooting and maintaining systems, analyzing applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, and becoming thoroughly familiar with installation equipment, labeling conventions, wire management procedures, and system commissioning protocols.

Since January 2020, all new construction and major renovation projects have required solar permits and installations. Beginning in 2045, all residential, commercial, and industrial buildings must incorporate solar installation. Solar installation has become one of the fastest-growing industries globally, reflecting the shift toward renewable energy sources.

This course covers every aspect of solar PV systems, from initial sales and consultation through professional inspection and processing rebate applications. Students should have foundational knowledge of electrical principles and mathematical calculations, as the course requires applying these concepts. Students will complete assigned homework and take assessments and quizzes throughout the program.

The course is delivered via Zoom video conferencing. 100% zoom class attendance is preferred. Each student will receive their individual Zoom meeting link via email no later than one day before the course begins. A certificate of completion will be issued to all students who achieve a final course score of 80 percent or higher.
