Overview

This introductory workshop equips you with practical, actionable knowledge of the essential methods and strategies that define and shape contemporary project management theory and best practice in professional environments.

Master the Five Phases of Project Management:

  1. Initiation: developing and presenting a formal proposal
  2. Planning: establishing project timelines, budgeting resources, and engaging stakeholders
  3. Execution: identifying issues related to scope, budget, challenges, and potential risks
  4. Monitoring: sustaining quality standards through continuous oversight and adjustment
  5. Closing: finalizing deliverables and transferring completed work products

Following an overview of the complete process, this course focuses intensively on the first two phases: initiation and planning. During the initiation phase, you will practice identifying and evaluating potential projects, creating project charters, and documenting project scope with precision. You will then explore the planning phase, where much of a project's eventual success is determined. In the initial part of planning, you will create visual diagrams and charts while developing the ability to interpret and apply them. In the second part, you will gain hands-on technical experience using strategic approaches to understand concepts like scheduling slack and resource allocation.

Developing Skills for Project Manager Success:

The course concludes with an interactive discussion on project managers and the key qualities required for success in this role. You will examine the most critical skills and personal characteristics, explore the importance of effective delegation, and study the best approaches for managing organizational change.

This one-day workshop wraps up with an overview of project management software tools, professional associations, and industry certifications. You will receive a comprehensive slide deck containing both practical knowledge and numerous hands-on exercises. This class serves as an excellent fit for anyone seeking an introduction to or refresher on project management theories, methodologies, key concepts, and various approaches.
