Books are a dynamic and intimate way to share work and offer a viewing experience that is not tied to a specific time and location. Handbound artist books (or creatively altered print on demand books) allow for unique forms that actively engage the viewer. This online course focuses on the sequencing, construction, and study of photo-based artist books.
We will share the process of creating the books we made over two decades, along with favorite books from our collection. Through demonstrations and examples, students will learn basic binding techniques and explore how they can be altered to meaningfully tie materials and structure to concepts. Participants will receive weekly feedback on a book in progress or a series of images that are ready to be sequenced and bound.
