Aspiring to see your humor writing published in McSweeney's? This online humor writing course provides the ideal foundation for developing your comedic voice and craft. Instructor Rebecca Saltzman, whose work has appeared in The New Yorker and McSweeney's, guides you through discovering the writing format that best showcases your strengths, whether political satire, comic monologues, satirical opinion pieces, or humorous lists. Through engaging in-class writing exercises, insightful craft instruction, and detailed analysis of published works, you will refine and complete a polished piece ready for submission.
Throughout the course, Rebecca will cover core comedy writing principles including how to transform a topic into a comedic premise and techniques for revising and strengthening your drafts. By the end of this course, you will have produced an 800-word, publication-ready humor piece along with a practical strategy for approaching similar writing projects in the future. Both experienced and beginning writers are welcome to participate. (Searing wit sold separately.)
