This comprehensive course invites students to explore charcoal as an artistic medium, examining its rich history spanning from ancient civilizations through the contemporary art world. The curriculum introduces foundational drawing principles before introducing charcoal work on toned or mixed media papers. Each lesson builds systematically on previous instruction, gradually introducing students to increasingly complex and sophisticated charcoal drawings. During each class session, the instructor will either provide a subject for study or you may bring your own subject of interest. Constructive participation in group critiques will be encouraged throughout the course to support your artistic development and growth.
