The Sustainability Toolbox for Building Designers is a professional online course that teaches architects and engineers how to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings through life cycle assessment (LCA) and carbon footprint analysis. Developed with Aalto University’s Department of Architecture, this 5 ECTS program provides practical skills to support carbon-neutral construction and meet EU sustainability regulations.
You can decide whether to complete the first three modules (3 ECTS) or all five (5 ECTS). The two options are available after adding the course to the cart.
Syllabus
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, you will:
- Understand the purpose and overall process of LCA for buildings and how buildings impact the environment.
- Understand the method of documenting the Bill of Quantities and its role in LCA.
- Be able to conduct LCA for buildings, as well as identify and understand the factors that influence the accuracy of LCA results.
- Understand effective strategies to lower environmental impact of buildings.
- Understand the implications of building LCA results and how to communicate the findings to your audience.
