Overview

This course prepares students to conduct themselves with professionalism in studio environments, ensuring clients view them as reliable collaborators who deliver consistent quality across multiple projects rather than unreliable talent to be avoided.

Designed For: Hobbyist voice actors, career-minded professionals, and established industry practitioners

Course Overview:

You have invested significant effort in developing your vocal performance abilities, refining your techniques, and successfully marketing yourself to prospective clients. Your efforts have begun to pay off; audition submissions are generating callbacks, and you have begun to secure paid work. Now clients are inviting you to record sessions, whether in a professional studio facility or using your home recording setup. When that important session day arrives, you discover that the production team communicates using specialized terminology and provides technical directions that feel unfamiliar or confusing. Your attempts to follow instructions seem to fall short of expectations, and you observe growing frustration from the production team as sessions consume more time and resources than anticipated.

Many emerging voice actors lack familiarity with standard studio conduct and the specialized vocabulary that professionals employ during recording sessions. A client's first impression of a voice talent is often shaped by their professionalism in the studio environment. When you enter a professional recording session, you are expected to demonstrate industry-standard professionalism and workplace etiquette.

This course ensures you can navigate professional recording environments confidently and appropriately. We conduct a comprehensive walkthrough of the complete recording session cycle, detailing the expectations and responsibilities of each team member, including producers, directors, engineers, and clients.

Understanding what constitutes unprofessional behavior carries equal importance to knowing correct practices. A single unprofessional comment or action, whether intentional or not, may result in losing future audition and work opportunities with that production company or team.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of studio procedures across both audition and active recording sessions, including identification of all key personnel and their specific responsibilities
  • Recognize the professional standards studios maintain for performers and articulate what performers can reasonably anticipate from studio environments
  • Execute all necessary preparation steps before arriving at a session to ensure complete readiness
  • Identify and describe behaviors that violate professional studio standards
  • Execute appropriate professional protocols following the conclusion of a recording session
