This seminar talk by Alessandra Sarti from the University of Poitiers explores Enriques varieties as part of the Brazilian Algebraic Geometry Seminar (BRAG) series. Discover the mathematical foundations of Enriques surfaces as special free quotients of K3 surfaces, and learn how this concept extends to higher dimensions through Enriques manifolds. The presentation is divided into two parts: first examining various definitions proposed by different authors and constructing examples as quotients of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds and Calabi-Yau manifolds, then discussing recent developments and extending the notion to singular settings, generalizing the Log Enriques surface concept introduced by Oguiso and Zhang in the 1990s. The research presented includes collaborative work with S. Boissière, C. Camere, and M. Nieper-Wisskirchen.
