India has emerged as a global leader in digital payments, transforming the way individuals, businesses and governments make and receive payments. Over the past two decades, the country has built a comprehensive digital payments ecosystem encompassing cheque clearing systems, ATM networks, card payments, electronic funds transfers, instant payments, Aadhaar-enabled payment systems and the Digital Rupee.
This course provides a non-technical introduction to India’s digital payment systems, their evolution, key features, and their role in enabling financial inclusion, interoperability and innovation. Through a combination of historical context, practical examples and real-world case studies, participants will gain an understanding of how India’s payment ecosystem has evolved and why it is increasingly being studied around the world.
