Managers, public officials and professionals routinely confront complex, ambiguous problems where data are incomplete, stakeholders’ interests conflict, and time is limited. This 8‑week course helps learners develop a structured approach to problem solving and decision making, blending analytical techniques with behavioural insights. Drawing on real-world managerial and public policy situations, the course covers problem definition, diagnostic analysis, generation and evaluation of alternatives, individual and group decision processes, and implementation discipline. Learners will be exposed to tools such as logical problem structuring, cause–effect diagrams, SWOT, basic quantitative prioritisation, decision criteria and simple risk analysis, along with common cognitive biases and debiasing techniques. Through cases, exercises and reflection, participants will build a personal toolkit to handle everyday and strategic decisions more effectively in organizational and government contexts.

Intended audience:

Working professionals and managers in corporate, government and non-profit organizations who make operational or strategic decisions.

Early-career public officials (including iGOT users) seeking to strengthen analytical and behavioural aspects of decision making.

Entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs who need to frame and solve complex business and societal problems.

Under graduate & Postgraduate students in management and related disciplines interested in improving their problem solving and decision skills.
