1.About the course:
This course is based on the ‘Mission LiFE – Lifestyle for Environment’ initiative of Government of India, that encourages a lifestyle of mindful and deliberate utilisation of resources. It aims to change the present 'use and throw' consumption habits that has fuelled global environmental crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The idea behind LiFE is to encourage individuals to adopt simple changes in their daily life that can contribute to climate change mitigation. It seeks to shift sustainability to a citizen movement, anchoring behaviour change in everyday choices around energy, water, waste, food systems, and lifestyles.
The course builds foundational sustainability literacy and the behavioural skills needed for environmental citizenship. It provides knowledge and tools to integrate sustainable practices into workplaces, supply chains, operations, and community engagement. The course highlights the environmental impact of daily choices and encourages to adopt low-cost lifestyle changes that are culturally rooted and easy to implement. The course enables widespread adoption of pro-environment habits that cumulatively reduce ecological footprints at community, state, and national levels.
Importantly, Mission LiFE also aligns with global commitments such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement of the UN Climate Change Convention. It supports India’s leadership in the global mass movement for sustainability, rooted in cultural values of frugality, respect for nature, and mindful living. The course helps translate this vision into actionable skills from conducting audits and reducing resource use to designing campaigns, influencing social norms, and building collective action platforms.
