Every project comes with risk. If risk occurs the project team operates in a reactive mode potentially moving towards project failure. As a project manager, you will need to be vigilant and constantly evaluate and mitigate potential risks. In this course, you will learn the compelling art of risk management throughout the project lifecycle while using information sharing techniques to keep all stakeholders informed and aligned. This course introduces you to different phases in the project lifecycle, and explains the difference in the phases based on the selected project methodology. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to explore best practices for information sharing with project teams and external stakeholders while equipping yourself with effective information sharing techniques. The course delves into the risk management lifecycle, from planning and identifying risks through to evaluation. You will also learn different strategies to respond to risks. You will learn about various tools, such as risk reports, risk registers, and the risk matrix, and the opportunity to apply your skills to create these artifacts for given project scenarios. This course is set up to help you succeed as a project manager. It is well-suited for those looking to step up their careers or new graduates seeking to establish their project management careers. This course is part of a series of courses that will help you prepare for certifications offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) including Certified Associate of Project Management (PMI-CAPM) and Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP). RECOMMENDED: It is good for everyone gearing toward a career in Project Management to have basic to intermediate skills in an Office Productivity Suite, such as Microsoft Office 365. We highly recommend enrolling in the SkillUp EdTech Office Productivity Software Specialization, which covers Word Processing, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Messaging, and Email.

Syllabus

  • The Project Management Lifecycle
    • In this module, you will learn the fundamentals of the project management lifecycle. You will explore common project lifecycles, project management certifications, and the key phases of a project. You will also learn about the documents, processes, and responsibilities that support successful project delivery from initiation through closing.
  • Information Sharing: Communications
    • In this module, you will learn the importance of effective communication in project management. You will explore communication methods, technology factors that affect communication, and techniques for planning and managing project communications. You will also learn how active listening, conflict management, and communication monitoring contribute to project success.
  • Information Sharing: Stakeholder Management
    • In this module, you will learn how to identify, engage, and manage project stakeholders. You will explore the purpose of the stakeholder register and stakeholder engagement plan, as well as techniques for gaining stakeholder commitment and support. You will also learn how team charters, ground rules, and norms help improve collaboration and stakeholder engagement throughout a project.
  • Introduction to Project Risk Management
    • In this module, you will learn the fundamentals of project risk management. You will explore the difference between risks and issues, opportunities and threats, and learn how to document risks using risk metalanguage. You will also learn how SWOT analysis, risk management plans, qualitative risk analysis, and risk scoring help project teams identify and manage risks effectively.
  • Respond and Monitor Risk
    • In this module, you will learn how to respond to and monitor project risks. You will explore strategies for managing threats and opportunities, identifying risk triggers, and creating risk reports. You will also learn how to use risk management tools such as risk matrices, conduct risk audits, and perform risk reassessments to keep projects on track.
  • Final Project and Quiz
    • In this module, you will demonstrate your understanding of the concepts covered throughout the course by completing the final exam. You will review key topics, including project lifecycles, communications, stakeholder management, and risk management, and prepare for the next steps in your project management learning journey.
