What Your "Checkride" Will Be Like Your Practical Test, commonly referred to as your Checkride, consists of two parts: An oral exam conducted before you go flying An in-flight test in which you demonstrate your skills in the aircraft On the oral portion of your test you will be required to demonstrate your aviation knowledge, including subjects like regulations, aeromedical factors, aircraft systems, meteorology, and airspace. On the flight portion of the Flight Instructor Practical Test you will be expected to demonstrate that you are truly ready to be Pilot-In-Command. In addition to demonstrating your piloting proficiency with the required maneuvers, you will be expected to demonstrate good risk management—including situational awareness, collision avoidance, cockpit resource management and the appropriate use of checklists.
