Build practical skills in designing scalable vector graphics by combining XML, SVG, and XSLT in a structured, project-based learning experience. This course guides you through creating standards-compliant SVG graphics, from foundational XML syntax and basic shapes to reusable components, advanced styling, filters, gradients, and semantic markup. Across five progressive modules, you will define SVG structures, construct vector drawings using XML, apply stroke and fill techniques, organize graphics with reusable definitions and styling, and integrate text, metadata, and accessibility features. You will also implement advanced SVG attributes, filters, gradients, and finishing techniques to create polished, scalable graphics with clean, well-structured markup. Designed for aspiring web developers, data visualizers, and interface designers, this course emphasizes hands-on practice through quizzes, graded assessments, and practical projects. Rather than focusing only on concepts, you'll build and refine SVG documents while learning best practices for organization, styling, reusability, and markup validation. By the end of the course, you'll be able to construct, style, optimize, and validate XML-based SVG graphics, creating reusable, accessible, and visually polished vector graphics using industry-standard XML and SVG techniques.

Syllabus

  • SVG Drawing Fundamentals
    • This module introduces the foundational concepts of SVG within XML, focusing on basic shape creation, coordinate systems, and the syntax necessary for building scalable vector drawings.
  • Composition and Styling
    • This module explores composition techniques, element grouping, and styling methods using inline CSS and reusable definitions to create visually organized SVG drawings.
  • Text and Metadata in SVG
    • This module delves into integrating textual content and metadata into SVG graphics, highlighting the use of accessibility tags, character escaping, and structured labeling.
  • Advanced SVG Structuring
    • This module advances into reusable components, filtering techniques, and enhanced stroke styling, enabling modular and complex SVG design implementations.
  • Color, Effects, and Final Touches
    • The final module focuses on gradient fills, color transitions, and finishing effects using filters, tooltips, and proper markup closure to create polished, interactive SVG graphics.
