This course teaches how to bring Blender projects to life through animation, rigging, effects, and advanced workflows. Mastering these skills allows creators to produce professional-quality animations and integrate 2D and 3D elements seamlessly. Learners will animate objects, rig characters, simulate physics, and work with hair and fluids. The course also covers Grease Pencil for 2D animation, video editing, compositing, motion tracking, and Python scripting to streamline workflows. What sets this course apart is its practical, example-driven approach that combines theory with real-world applications. Learners gain hands-on experience with sophisticated Blender tools and techniques. This course benefits 3D artists, animators, and motion designers with basic Blender knowledge, aiming to elevate their animation and visual effects capabilities. This course is part three of a three-course Specialization designed to provide a comprehensive learning pathway in this subject area. While it delivers standalone value and practical skills, learners seeking a more integrated and in-depth progression may benefit from completing the full Specialization. This Specialization is based on the book, Blender All-in-One For Dummies, by Jason van Gumster. Syllabus

  • Animating Objects
    • This module introduces the foundational principles of animation in Blender, including keyframe animation, the illusion of motion, and the use of the Graph Editor and f-curve modifiers. Learners will gain practical skills in animating various object properties and refining motion for more realistic results. By the end, you'll be able to enhance your animation workflow and bring static scenes to life.
  • Adding Controls to Your Scene
    • This module introduces key techniques for controlling objects in 3D animation using Blender, focusing on constraints, drivers, and the versatile Empty object. Learners will discover how to automate and refine animation workflows, gaining hands-on experience with influence sliders, tracking, and advanced driver setups. By the end, you'll be able to enhance animation efficiency and precision through practical control mechanisms.
  • Rigging: The Art of Building an Animatable Puppet
    • This module introduces the essential techniques for creating animatable 3D character rigs, including the use of shape keys, hooks, and armatures. Learners will discover how to build, refine, and optimize rigs for expressive animation, while exploring key concepts like kinematics, parenting, and pose libraries. By the end, you'll be equipped to construct and enhance your own character rigs in Blender.
  • Animating Object Deformations
    • This module guides learners through advanced character animation techniques in Blender, focusing on rigged meshes, armatures, and efficient workflow tools like the Dope Sheet and Graph Editor. You'll explore nonlinear animation, action mixing, and looping to create complex, polished animations while mastering key animation principles.
  • Letting Blender Do the Work for You
    • This module introduces you to Blender's powerful simulation tools for creating realistic animations involving hair, cloth, fluids, smoke, and physics-based motion. You'll learn how to use force fields, collisions, and specialized systems to automate complex effects, and discover best practices for rendering these simulations in Blender's different engines.
  • Making 2D and 2.5D Animation with Grease Pencil
    • This module introduces you to creating dynamic 2D and 2.5D animations using Blender's Grease Pencil. You'll learn to draw, edit, and sculpt Grease Pencil objects, manage layers and materials, apply modifiers, and animate your creations within a 3D environment. By the end, you'll be able to integrate hand-drawn elements with 3D scenes and explore both traditional and rigged animation workflows.
  • Editing Video and Animation
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of video editing and compositing using Blender's Video Sequencer. Learners will discover how to import footage, add effects and transitions, and render their final video projects. Practical workflows and essential post-production techniques are emphasized throughout.
  • Compositing Images and Video
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of compositing in Blender, focusing on the use of nodes, render passes, and layers to enhance images and video. Learners will explore the differences between Eevee and Cycles render engines, discover available compositing nodes, and practice practical workflows such as replacing textures without re-rendering. By the end, you'll be able to efficiently combine and adjust rendered elements for professional-quality results.
  • Mixing Video and 3D with Motion Tracking
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of motion tracking in Blender, guiding learners through the process of aligning 3D elements with live-action video footage. You will explore techniques for tracking features, solving camera motion, and ensuring consistent lighting for seamless visual effects integration.
  • Working with Linked Data
    • This module introduces techniques for managing complex Blender projects using linked data, including appending, linking, and library overrides. Learners will discover how to efficiently share and update assets across multiple .blend files, streamline collaboration, and customize linked content using Blender's advanced features.
  • Automating Blender with Python Scripting
    • This module introduces you to automating tasks in Blender using Python scripting. You'll learn how to navigate Blender's scripting workspace, write basic scripts, and leverage built-in templates and documentation to streamline your workflow. By the end, you'll be able to create simple automation tools to enhance your productivity in Blender.
