This course features Coursera Coach! A smarter way to learn with interactive, real-time conversations that help you test your knowledge, challenge assumptions, and deepen your understanding as you progress through the course. This course focuses on advanced Electron integration techniques, combining modern frameworks, database connectivity, and real-world application features. You’ll gain hands-on experience building full-featured apps, including music players, chat systems, and games, while learning professional testing and deployment workflows. The course begins with automated end-to-end testing using Playwright, teaching you to write and execute robust test cases for Electron applications. You’ll then integrate Electron with React using Vite, building reusable UI components, implementing testing, and finalizing production-ready projects. Following this, you’ll explore Angular integration, creating scalable applications with hot reloading, material design components, and routing, culminating in complete Angular-Electron apps. Next, the course covers feature-rich projects such as a music player with Amplitude, a Firebase-connected chat app, and a Phaser.js-based game. You’ll learn to implement authentication, real-time database operations, playback controls, metadata displays, and interactive game mechanics. Finally, you’ll gain expertise in connecting Electron apps with databases, handling user data, and integrating multimedia and game engines effectively. Ideal for developers with intermediate Electron and JavaScript experience, front-end engineers, and aspiring desktop app creators, this course assumes familiarity with modern web frameworks and Node.js. By the end of the course, you will be able to integrate Electron with React and Angular, implement automated testing, connect apps to Firebase databases, build multimedia and game projects, and deliver full-featured, interactive desktop applications.

Syllabus

  • Automated Testing with Playwright
    • In this module, we will explore automated end-to-end testing using Playwright. We will learn how to install and configure the testing framework, create test files, and write practical test cases. By the end of the module, you will be able to automate application validation and improve software quality through testing.
  • Integrating React with Electron Using Vite
    • In this module, we will integrate React with Electron using Vite to create modern desktop applications. We will build reusable UI components, customize application behavior, and streamline development with Vite's tooling. The module also covers testing and production builds to prepare applications for deployment.
  • Integrating Electron with Angular
    • In this module, we will learn how to combine Angular and Electron to create feature-rich desktop applications. We will scaffold a project, enable hot reloading, integrate Angular Material components, and implement routing. Finally, we will build the completed application for deployment.
  • Playing Music in Electron: Integrating with Amplitude
    • In this module, we will build a music player application by integrating the Amplitude library with Electron. We will implement audio playback, add interactive controls, and enhance the user interface with progress indicators and metadata displays. These features will create a polished multimedia application experience.
  • Connecting to a Database: Integrating with Firebase
    • In this module, we will integrate Firebase with Electron to create a real-time, database-driven application. We will configure authentication, design login interfaces, and connect the application to Firebase Realtime Database. Through the development of a group chat application, we will learn how to manage users and real-time messaging.
  • Game Development with Electron: Integrating with Phaser.js
    • In this module, we will create a desktop game using Electron and Phaser.js. We will configure the project, load game assets, and implement gameplay mechanics such as movement, shooting, and collision detection. By the end of the module, you will have developed and packaged a fully functional Electron-based game.
