High-stakes goals, constant change, and pressure-filled conditions don't just test individual performance; they test whether your team can hold together and keep moving. This course draws on two decades of world-record adventure racing to share the eight essential elements of team resilience discovered by competing thousands of miles across the most extreme environments on Earth. You'll work through each element of the T.E.A.M.W.O.R.K. framework: from sustaining total commitment when things get hard, to managing adversity without losing momentum, to shifting your team from "me thinking" to "we thinking." Through real scenarios and applied practice, you'll build the habits and strategies that turn capable individuals into a team that finishes together every time. By the end of this course, you'll be able to apply the T.E.A.M.W.O.R.K. framework to diagnose team vulnerabilities, motivate commitment under pressure, and lead with the kinetic flexibility that resilient, high-performing teams demand.

Syllabus

  • The 8 Essential Elements
    • Building a team that finishes together under pressure takes more than talent. In this module, you'll map the eight essential elements of the T.E.A.M.W.O.R.K. framework and see how two decades of world-record adventure racing exposed what really holds resilient teams together.
  • Total Commitment to Finish
    • Your team's commitment is tested not at the start line but when the race gets hard and the finish line feels furthest away. In this module, you'll apply the Four Ps of Commitment to sustain team motivation and forward momentum when conditions become difficult.
  • Empathy and Awareness
    • Your team's ability to hold together under pressure comes from the strength of its human connections, not the talent of its individuals. In this module, you'll apply three empathy-driven practices to build the connections that sustain team commitment and trust over the long haul.
  • Adversity Management
    • Adversity is not the exception in high-performing teams; it is the constant, and how your team responds to it determines whether they finish together. In this module, you'll apply five adversity management strategies to keep your team moving forward creatively and resiliently when conditions become difficult or unpredictable.
  • Mutual Respect
    • Mutual respect is not something you earn from your team by being the best; it is something you give them, every day, without condition. In this module, you'll apply four practices that build the deep team bonds sustaining resilience under pressure: the Aluminum Can Theory, acting like a team before the feelings return, giving respect as a gift, and believing beyond reason.
  • We Thinking vs. Me Thinking
    • Your most ambitious goals will always outrun what any individual can achieve alone. In this module, you'll apply we thinking practices, including the suffer equally principle and the towline strategy, to build a team culture where every member is accountable for getting each other across the finish line.
  • Ownership of the Project
    • Your team's engagement will never exceed what their sense of ownership allows, and ownership is yours to create. In this module, you'll apply three ownership-building practices to increase a current team member's buy-in: leading with their strengths, asking for their input, and discovering and delivering their individual why.
  • Relinquishing the Ego
    • The heaviest thing in your pack is your ego, and the best teams leave it at the start line every single day. In this module, you'll demonstrate the three behaviors that put team performance ahead of personal pride: accepting help gracefully, giving away the credit specifically, and letting people lead based on their talents rather than their titles.
  • Kinetic Leadership
    • Your team's needs change constantly, and the leader who can only reach for one style will always fall short of the one who can reach for six. In this module, you'll apply all six of Goleman's leadership styles situationally, selecting the right style for the conditions your team is facing to drive both climate and business results.
  • Conclusion
    • You have built and practiced the full T.E.A.M.W.O.R.K. framework; now it is time to put it to work on the biggest goal you can imagine. In this module, you'll set one audacious personal or professional goal, commit to sharing it with two people within 24 hours, and identify the first teammate you will bring into that journey.
