Learn how DNA, the molecule of life, uses a precise set of processes to sustain the cell. This course breaks down the central dogma of molecular biology, exploring replication, which copies DNA; transcription, which accesses its genetic information; and translation, which uses that information to build essential proteins. You will also discover how the cell intelligently regulates which proteins are made to keep itself healthy. By the end of this course, you will be able to explain how DNA is replicated and expressed to maintain cellular function.

Syllabus

  • DNA: The Molecule of Life
    • In this course, we will begin to develop an understanding of the molecule that makes all of life possible, DNA. It does this through replication, which makes a copy of the DNA. It does this through transcription, which allows the cell to access the information to make proteins. It does this through translation, which uses this information to make the proteins that keep the cell alive. Finally, we’ll see how the cell determines which proteins are necessary to keep it healthy.
