Syllabus

Introduction

This module introduces the landscape of digital threats by exploring different types of malware, such as trojans, ransomware, spyware, and adware. It addresses the psychological aspect of cybersecurity whether we should just "give up" and establishes foundational defense strategies by discussing the role of antivirus software

Malware

This module focuses on mitigating malware risks by emphasizing the critical need to keep operating systems up to date. It provides specific, practical guidance on how to manage updates across major platforms, including Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android devices

Social Engineering

This module explores the manipulation tactics used in cyberattacks, with a specific look at phishing and the general concept of social engineering. It also covers practical ways to stop "bleeding out our data" by managing social media privacy settings and mobile app permissions, while addressing the risks of unsecured networks and how Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) can help.

Passwords

This module provides a comprehensive guide to modern authentication, covering the selection, installation, and safe use of password managers across websites, apps, and browsers. It also introduces passkeys and provides instructions for configuring and practicing multifactor authentication (MFA) in everyday scenarios.

Backups and Physical Security

This module covers strategies for creating reliable data redundancy to prevent catastrophic data loss in the event of a cyberattack or hardware failure. It also addresses the importance of physically securing devices against theft, loss, or unauthorized in-person access.

Wrapping Up

This final module synthesizes the core concepts learned throughout the course, helping learners build a cohesive personal cybersecurity strategy. It focuses on turning theoretical knowledge into an actionable, long-term digital hygiene routine.
