This wine course invites you to explore and compare the most significant wine-producing regions of the Old World and New World through examination of their distinctive principal grapes and the characteristic wine styles they produce. Join us as we unravel the complexities of the European Union labeling scheme and compare it with wine production and classification methods from the remainder of the world. We will identify and analyze global wine patterns through tasting diverse examples across continents. The course examines the highlights of major regions, including France, Italy, and Spain, together with various emerging New World wine regions.
The tasting component of this course features 5 to 7 wines selected to illustrate the contrasts between Old World and New World winemaking traditions, with examples drawn from various climates and grape varieties that demonstrate regional diversity and stylistic differences.
